The Axion Estin Foundation (AEF) (AEF) announces its second conference in New York, USA, with the general title:

SECOND AXION ESTIN SYMPOSIUM ON BYZANTINE MUSIC EDUCATION

BUILDING A BYZANTINE CHOIR

The Axion Estin Foundation's second symposium on Byzantine Music Education. The symposium took place January 14 through 16 (Monday-Wednesday) of 2008, at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. The Graduate Center is located at Fifth Avenue and 34th Street across from the Empire State Building. The main symposium hall was held at the prestigious Baisley Powell Elebash Recital Hall, which was especially designed for the acoustical needs of music and spoken-word presentations. It is an elegant, gently raked hall, which seats 180.

Based on the conclusions of the first Axion Estin Symposium, held on January 20 and 21, 2006 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in New Rochelle, New York, the second symposium had two important new characteristics: 1) It was held during weekdays to maximize the participation of church musicians, who were unable to attend the first conference 2) It had a strong workshop and on-site Byzantine Music training component. Major contributions to this second symposium were made by Lycourgos Angelopoulos, Archon Protopsaltis of the Holy Archdiocese of Constantinople and founder/director of the Greek Byzantine Choir; Dr. Achillefs Chaldaiakis, Professor at the Department of Music Studies of the University of Athens, Greece; Photios Ketsetzis, Professor of Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music, Hellenic College/Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts, and others.
